A 4,000-yuan-per-ton dog food claimed 36% crude protein\u2014double the national standard\u2014though the factory owner conceded the number was fabricated entirely: \u201cThese numbers are just written however looks good\u201d. The ingredient list undergoes similar creative writing. Products advertising \u201c52% chicken\u201d and \u201c20% fresh chicken breast\u201d contained no fresh meat at all\u2014only chicken meal, or in cheaper products, feather meal that boosts protein readings without providing absorbable nutrition.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
